Let us extend a Hearty Welcome to the Tamil New Year Durmugi! The Word Durmugi relates to (Cha)durmugi or Lord Brahma!

Think of Tamil New Year, Think of Pudhu Panchangam! Panchangam plays a vital role in all our lives for choosing proper Neram & Kaalam for different events. It gives us also complete details relating to Ammavasai, Pournami, Grahanams etc. and it is really great wonder as to how our Ancestors have been able to make such calculations so precisely based on the Movement of Navagrahas! Whether we follow the Panchangam or not (most of us may not even know how to use it?) We keep a copy in our Pooja Room treating it as a sacred book. “Panchanga Padanam“ by Pandits has been an important event on the day for years & years.

As regards celebration, we start the day with Special Prayers & Visit nearby Temples wearing Traditional dress. We enjoy the Special Lunch together with Family members & Guests with Payasam, Vadai, Appalam etc. As it is the starting of Mango & Veppam Poo Season, we include Mango & Veppam Poo Sweet Pachadi invariably as a Special Dish. It gives us a mixed Taste and also signifies the fact that Life is also a mixture of Joyful & Sad Events as well.

We also utilize the opportunity to exchange our Greetings as an expression of Love & Affection with Near & Dear ones! Enjoying Special Events in TVs or witnessing new films or visiting places for relaxations also do take place!
